Miracles Exist
November 1st, 2013 -- Karlie's high school friend Katie came up this weekend to have the "Ephraim Experience." They went off to the Manti temple to do some baptisms for the dead and I sadly couldn't join them because my temple recommend had expired that day. While Karlie and Katie were off in Manti Jordyn, Korryn, Kalisha, and I stayed at the apartment doing homework, watching tv, or listening to music.
A little after 9 o'clock, we wanted to go to Sugar Plum Cottage for a little treat and kinda of a tradition we like keep. We convinced Korryn to step away from her science homework and join us for a late night snack because a break of homework is ALWAYS healthy. Eventually she agreed with our logic and we were off to Spring City!
Sugar Plum Cottage Background:
Sugar Plum Cottage is a snow creamy shack that is built into a family's house. They have twenty plus flavors to chose from and two ways to eat it: whipped or parfait. The parfait is my favorite, they do layers of snow ice, ice cream, and more snow ice, and then some whip cream. Whatever size of cup you get, expect it to go over the lid guaranteed. Sugar Plum Cottage is located in Spring City which is about seven to ten minutes away from our apartment.
Karlie volunteered to drive us to our adventure. We made it out of the town lights and we had a frightening experiencing. We were riding in the car just laughing and having a good time until Karlie braked suddenly because a doe was standing in front of us. We all screamed! Luckily the doe ran off fast so we were able to keep on driving but on a lower speed. We all started to keep an eye out for the roads.
Out of nowhere stood a bull elk with point close to 5 by 5 in the middle of our lane. Screaming, Karlie slammed on her brakes and we thankful stopped a few feet away from the elk that remained in our lane. The elk finally decided to run out of the road. As we all sighed a breath of relief suddenly a giant thud rattled our car. Flash of darkness came across my eyes and suddenly I started to feel some cold and sharp things along my lower back. The back window had shattered and covered Kalisha, Korryn, and mine backs.
Long story short:
Because we had stopped for the elk a school bus that was following too close to us rear ended us going about 50 miles per hour. We were brought to the hospital in Mt. Pleasant by ambulance. We all got x-rays, neck braces, and some medicine to take home for our muscle spasms and pain that was to follow once adrenaline wore off. I was the last one out of the hospital because I was in the worse place possible. I was sitting the middle seat in the back which meant I didn't have a full seat belt to hold my body still.
Karlie and her parents went back a few days after the accident to check out the damage in actual light and to see how we all walked away with just whiplash. They all agree that it is certainly a miracle that we weren't serious hurt and that we were alive. The bus crushed the trunk up completely but the damage stopped inches away from the backseats. Karlie says the gab between the damage and our seats is big enough for a hand. We were personally protected by a hand of only two people who had that power to do so... Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.
It was a miracle that we survived, that we weren't seriously injured. It was a miracle. It is proof that miracles exist -- minor or major. This has also brought to my mind that not only does miracles exist but we never know what is ahead for us.
Miracles exist & God is always watching over us.
